Tybee Island Lighthouse Museum
Tybee Island Museum and Light Station
Tybee Island Light Station and Museum is a great place to go with your family. There is a lot of history and the volunteers are more than willing to share what they know with you. The lighthouse and some of the surrounding building have been beautifully restored. They are working on getting everything restored and I am sure it will look amazing. The Headkeeper’s house and Summer Kitchen are open for you explore. They include history and period pieces. You can climb the 178 stairs to the top of the lighthouse. There are plenty of landings for you to stop, rest and enjoy the view. They only allow a certain number up at a time so there might be a short (or long) wait. We waited about 10 minutes. I do want to point out that they do not allow backpacks of any kind in the light house. So don’t plan on taking one, even if it is to carry a child. However they will let you carry a child in a carrier that is on the front side. Overall…great experience
