Community of travelers, by travelers, and for travelers…

Ok, so the phrase is borrowed, but that's beside the point. What are we trying to do here at Gusto? Well, it started as a
way for friends to share travel advice, and has grown into a community of people who are passionate about travel. Travel reviews
written in isolation have very little value, but a review by someone you know, or by someone who shares similar ideas about
what makes a great travel experience has a tremendous amount of value. Similarly, recommendations from people about travel
destinations and travel web sites (the entire idea behind the Gusto Grabber) only carry weight if it comes from someone you know
or from someone who you can determine (via that persons profile entries) shares similar ideas on travel. Personal recommendations
go a long, long way in the travel business.

Your site is great. The Gusto Grabber is great idea too. There are some doubts about the reviews. Do you monitor them? How can you detect the bogus reviews posted by hotel staff or competition? Or you think there is no need to do it?
I have looked a lot of web 2.0, but this one attracted me most of all.

Hi Naz, thanks for the comments about Gusto. We do have editors that look at the reviews, but mostly other members of Gusto can spot the fake ones pretty easily. If someone has no profile and no other information, but only one glowing review of a particular hotel, it stands out. Over time certain reviewers get a reputation of being trustworthy, something we will help along via new technology tools in the near future. Jeff

I agree that recommendations from people you know carry a lot of weight, but I think that sites like this are good too.  The people I know may not have ever been to the places that will get reviewed here, so the input can be very helpful.  So, keep those reviews coming.  I at least will enjoy them!

And while hotel booking websites may have user reviews, there's no promise that the reviews weren't written by the staff, or competitors' staff (the negative reviews always sound the same…).

Before my next trip, no matter how short, I'll ask around here first. that's for sure.

I would like to see more involvement in the blogs – maybe a feature that would bring a blog entry back up to the 'front' again, when it gets a comment? That might get more dialogue happening.

Good point on the Blogs. We tried to give a little attention by putting the most popular blogs up, but we’ll look at the ones with comments as well. Jeff
