TravelCom in Las Vegas

Last week was the TravelCom / Res Expo show in Las Vegas. It appears that travel suppliers are still very interested in adding 2.0 tools in hopes of gaining more visitors and sales. It is nice to see such activity in the ever growing online travel industry, and nice when Gusto is included, "Niche Sites Invigorate Online Travel."

The member content certainly adds to the planning and research phase, and really helps in sharing experiences, but how many travelers are still trying to find a great deal? A lot, I think. The key question is what else? What can a site offer travelers that they are not yet getting? Gusto has always been flexible in listening to its member's needs, so if you think of something great, please let me know.

Loricat:  I just don't understand what more it is you're suggesting they need.  The best feature of this site is that you can log in here from an internet cafe and find all of your bookmarks there, despite not being on your own computer.

Why would you need another page from which to access those bookmarks?  You can already set your preferences so you don't share your bookmarks with the public.  Even if you do share them, nobody else can use them to hack into your mail or credit card accounts without knowing your passwords for those sites.

So it seems to me like it's already secure!  Isn't it???

The key thing we need is information from people like us -- not from people paid to review, not owners or competitors padding hotel review sites...indeed, just what Gusto is, in theory. Like I blogged the other day, in time, Gusto will be the repository for some pretty extensive information.

But then -- I had another idea. (*ping!* goes the lightbulb above my head) In true Web2.0 style, it would be nice to have a secure page (sort of like Netvibes, but on Gusto) where we gustonians, when we're actually away from home, and using Internet cafe computers, can check in to one place for our email accounts, notes of our credit card numbers and emergency phone numbers, our hotel/itinerary notes, postcard-mailing address lists, our who-do-I-still-need-to-get-a-gift-for lists.....etc. etc. And of course, linked into Gusto so that we can check our saved bookmarks on the fly, check to see if anyone had reviewed some new place we're thinking of going to, and (of course!) blog about our travel adventures.
