Chrysler Building

Chrysler Building

quote:

A glittering paean to America’s car culture, the Chrysler Building has been an indelible part of the Manhattan skyline since it was built in 1930. For a brief time, it was the tallest building in the world, until the 1931 Empire State Building was crowned with that distinction. Nonetheless, the Chrysler building has remained a favorite among New Yorkers and visitors. The stainless steel marvel is a 1930s pinnacle of grace and style, featuring stunning architectural details including gargoyles resembling radiator caps and hood ornaments. Perhaps the building’s most eye-catching feature is the magnificent tapered point that supports the spire. The steel tip has a series of triangular windows on its four façades, and when they reflect the midday light, the top of the building can look like a fiery sunburst. On the ground level, the lovely Art Deco lobby, with lots of marble and onyx, is also worth a peek.
