I'm not sure if people want to read a "review" by a local. Just keep in mind this is one man's perspective. Hilton Head Island is a beautiful vacation destination. What can be a little off-putting is the lack of a "downtown" or "town center", and the fact that it seems about 90% of the housing areas on the Island are gated.... Get used to being asked to make A LOT of U-turns! The other somewhat disappointing thing is a the lack of a drive along the beach. We really don't have one. The pluses are the climate (of course), the seemingly-endless beaches, Golf, Golf and more Golf, the surprisingly "big city" art scene for such a small town, the myriad of truly fine restaurants, and this is really shallow but true: leave your Rolex or other "bling" on... robbery's not a problem here. Yes, the Bluffton area IS over-developed, and sometimes it seems to take FOREVER to get over the bridge, but hang in there, it's worth it! Jeffy Jeff - Hilton Head, Charleston, & UES
