I'm Interviewing ROBERT IRVINE!

Robert Irvine is the graduation speaker, and while I am not graduating until March, I am getting to meet him so that I can do an article for the school paper! I’m so psyched! I’ll try and tell all about it later! :)

Avon Walk Cookie Bars

Here’s another recipe I hope you’ll either try, or inspire you to try something like it. I make these bars (when I’m home, at least) for my mother’s walking team for the NYC Avon Breast Cancer Walk every October. They are undeniably cookies, but when you walk 39 (I think) miles, anything with dried fruit and nuts is justified. But you don’t have to be doing a two day walk to enjoy these.

The base is a slightly tweaked...

Hey everyone, I need a recipe by Saturday!!! I'm making Silders for dinner with my boyfriend, and I don't have my amazing dinner roll recipe (From Williams-Sonoma Baking Essentials)<if anyone has that book by some weird consequence, I'd loovvee it), and I dont trust anyone else out there, so I was wondering if anyone had a soft dinner roll recipe that can be used...

Updated Banana Bread /Inexpensive College Student Food

This is an updated recipe from a Banana bread post I did a while ago. This banana cake, according to my boyfriend, is the best he’s ever had.. It’s super super moist and full of banana flavor. I scaled it down to fit an 8×4 loaf pan, and I think it’s so moist because I didn’t use the right egg amount, not enough flour and a lot of bananas. It looks and smells really good, and I just wanted to update the recipe here so someone else might try it, tell me how it...

8th Term Food Writing

So, I;m in my 8th term, and after quite a bit of schedule issues, I'm finally settled into the end of my second week. Which, brings the reason for my blog.

I haven't written in a very long time and after my Food Writing Class let out an hour early, I felt really foolish to be sitting in my room, so I decided to pop on here and write for a bit.

Food Writing class seems so full of information. I am so sad to see it ending in November.

 Years ago, on...

Quesadillas.

Another recipe with a semi-story. =) It's short, I promise. I know a lot of people know how to make a quesadilla, so this is more of a tip than anything else.

My mother brought home a rost. chicken for dinner, since it was just the two of us, to do with it what we liked. She made a chicken blt, and I decided on a quesadilla. But I didnt want chicken and cheese, I wanted a little something extra, but we didnt have any salsa. So (here's my tip hidden within the story) I cubed...

Sexy Marble Cake

As usual, this recipe comes with a story. My sister was supposed to be doing babysitting all day till "11" tonight,so my mother asked me if I would make a Cinnamon Streusel Coffee Cake. (of course, she walks in at 7:30 at which point I've already creamed the butter and sugar, and being committed to it, I continued on)

I looked at the recipe  (page 97 in Williams-Sonoma Essentials of Baking Book, for "legal" reasons), it occurred to me that...

$1000 Stuff.

My dad is being a major pain. I'm unbearly frustrated. He's one of those old people who can barely check their email and don't trust a damn thing on the internet. I've been on this site for a little over a year. Dont you think I know this site well enough now? That I'd know if something was fishy? I'm just so angry. But I guess I'm used to it. I feel frustrated most of the time anyway.

7/2

Today was cool. We went to a special stop. A student has an uncle who is at a winery in Cali, so she got us a tour. And it was a great, cool place. Huge lavender garden with lots of lavender products, all house made…oh, and their wine was pretty good too…..but it's hard to drink wine at 10ish in the morning, lol.

I got some lavender honey for my sister, and some neat lavender/chamomile balmish type stuff for me and my mother, and we were off...

6/30 7/1

The weekend! Well, Friday night my roomie and a friend went to the lounge in the hotel, to check out the band and have a drink. The lounge was overrun with older drunk peopletrying to dance. It was great. So funny. I had a Sex on The Beach, my favorite drink, and watched the drunk people dance. The band wasnt kickin. Some older group doing covers. So we left at around tenthirty and went to the diner across the street for a quick bite.

I was, admittidly, a wee bit tispy. One drin...

So I guess I won a $1000. =) =) =)

Can it be true? Seriously? I checked my gusto page, and someone had commented a congrats for winning, and so when I checked my email, lo and behold, I won!!!

I was stoked, like game show stoked. The first thing I did was email my boyfriend a "holy goodness is this for real" Email. And then I told my dad, who, practial and weary of anything internet, wanted to be sure it's legit.

But what to do with the money? The practical side of me urges me to save for the...

Our first winery! Sort of. Yesterday they squeezed one in. But this is our first offical one.

Iron Horse was pretty interesting….if by pretty interesting you mean obsencly boring. I mean, it was an amazing place, but…I hate to sound like a CIA-Grad with a chip on my shoulder, but….we all know something about wine, even me…and they went throug, in a detailed, step-by step over a 90 minute period..of how wine is made….the joke...

Sorry I havent been updating! But I'll talk about the rest of my time now.

The Flamingo, was an okay place. Internet charges were obsence. $5/hr. Are you kidding me?

This was supposed to be the be-all-end-all of hotels, but it was only average.

I got my ears pierced? Yup. Only the normal kind though, because when I got them done when I was younger, they messed it up and closed up. Okay, on with the trip=)

Mendocino Sea Vegatable!! Okay, so itt's in this tiny bitty town, this old hippie guy and his hippie wife go down to the beach and harvest this stuff on low tide themselves, then dry it and do whatever with it…man…this couple was…the most unquie people who've hosted us yet. To just go ahead an say it..I think they do a little more than seaweed harvesting. They were pretty funny. As we were walking down the path to the ocean, we stopped and the guy talked for a...
