One of my paper articles

Hey all, I don't know if this will be printed or not...but if it's not, I'd really like to have someone other than my boyfriend and the editor read it...so I thought I'd share it. This article was inspired by a Cadbury Creme egg....as you soon will read....

The Chocolate Indulgence
Jennifer Robinson

Chocolate bunnies, jelly beans, Cadbury Crème Eggs. Pre-Valentine’s day began the Easter Candy Season. This weekend, I finally allowed myself to indulge in my favorite: The Cadbury Egg. As I carefully tried to unwrap the foil in one piece, I remembered my loyalty to such deliciousness, or insanity, back in high school.

My junior year of high school brought the freedom of driving to and from school. There was a CVS on the way that always promoted the next holiday before the current one took place. Going in one day in mid-February, the aisles were an explosion of pastels, jelly beans, bunnies, chicks and eggs. I was overwhelmed with Spring Fever and in my feverish deliriousness bought a four pack of those beloved Eggs. I inhaled one in the car, nearly popping it in with one giant bite, and as I drove home, I contemplated an idea. What if I bought three four packs steadily in the following weeks prior to Easter…and ate one a month until next April? This idea was insanity, genius, obsession, or a little of it all. I ended up with fifteen eggs and in order to keep my will-power up, I promptly hid all fifteen eggs under old magazines, notebooks and papers in the bottom drawer of my desk, intending to forget about them. As time went by, the filling became thick and a soft solidification, but it was better than nothing. Such a thing now, at school would be absurd. I lack the hiding places and the will power.

As I looked at my egg, I suspiciously wondered if they had gotten smaller from the years of my youth, and took a bite from the top. I melted into serenity. The sugary, fondanty filling coating and melting slowly and thickly over my palette, the chocolate paring was perfect. The white and yellow filling viscous, gooey, and delightful. Such an indulgence made me think of Chef Greweling’s chocolates and other confections. I love and appreciate the careful handmade creations, those being equally delightful, but sometimes (like that midnight run to McDonalds) you just want something mass produced and reminiscent of childhood.

Such an indulgence is bittersweet. Upon finishing the luscious treat, my teeth ached with a white hot pain, so maybe such indulgences are best kept to a yearly treat…or maybe I‘ll just take up the less sugary Jelly Beans….Happy Easter candy hunting!

For me, it's the Cadbury mini-eggs at this time of year...It's the only chocolate I eat slowly -- because when I pop one of those inmy mouth, I have to carefully chip the candy coating off with my teeth, before I can eat the chocolate!

Nice post. "Ode to Egg" :-)

They're only around at Easter, and then not every year.  They haven't made them in at least two Easters, maybe three.  Damn them!

Malted eggs are my sister's favorite.

Russell Stover Crispy Caramel Rabbits are my personal favorites.  They haven't made them in a couple of years and I'm really jonesing.

Honestly.  The perfect ratio of caramel to chocolate, the good rich kind of chocolate that gives you a caffeine rush and isn't too waxy, the soft caramel that barely needs to be chewed, and then crispy rice to add texture.  God, how I miss them.

lol. That is awesome. I love the malted eggs, and Peeps. Those sound really, really fimilar....When where they around? I love caramel and crispy rice and chocolate. One of the greatest candy combos out there.
