Mesa Verde National Park

THis is a great park, very interesting. be warned that a fear of heights may limit your experience, as some of the cliff dwellings require climbing down the side of a mountain to reach. still, there are others that don’t require any climbing, just a short hike down the hill, so don’t let that stop you! I didn’t climb anywhere and I still enjoyed this trip very much. if you’re in the area, I would highly recommend stopping! however, make sure you either make reservations at the little lodge on top of the mountain, or plan your day so you leave early enough that you’ll be able to get back down before dusk. I daresay I would NOT want to drive down that mountain in the dark. it was scary enough going up in the daylight. But then, Im not an experienced mountain driver, so perhaps it was just me. If you decide to stay at the lodge on top of the hill (which I liked, it was definitely a pleasant stay, and there were lots of sweet little deer wandering around who came right up to our balcony) be aware that the only place to eat is a fairly expensive 4-star restaurant. it was the best meal of my life, but if you’re not prepared to fork over that much money for your supper, you may want to bring bag lunches or something. finally, I have to mention this little coffee shop we found nearby, the silver bean. that was definitely the highlight of our trip. if you pass it, you’ll know, stop and say hello!
