Gates is great, but this one is a little off

My friend Mona and I had dinner here over the weekend and we were really surprised by how bad the counter service was. If you’ve never been to Gates, it works like this: You stand in line and wait to order, and the women at the counter yell “Hi, can I help you?” and even if you’re 20 deep in line, you just shout your order back, and somehow they always get it right. Well, they got our orders right last weekend, but only after we’d stood in line for a while and then stood at the counter for more than 10 minutes – unheard of in my previous experiences at Gates. Our food was great, so they still get four stars, but I’d recommend going to the Gates on Main Street in Kansas City, Mo., where the service is better.
