Avanti's Italian Restaurant
Yum!
Avanti's is a great Italian restaurant right next to the Illinois State campus. It's always full, and it does a brisk takeout business, too. The pastas here are all great - especially the cheese ravioli - but my favorite thing is the Gondola sandwich. It doesn't sound like anything special: ham, salami, cheese and lettuce. But it comes on the most delicious bread - it's a little sweet and oh so yummy. Add some of the house Italian dressing, which is a little thicker and a little sweeter than the average Italian dressing, and you have the perfect sandwich. Just thinking about it makes me wish there was an Avanti's nearby ... I wonder if they'd overnight a few Gondolas to me?!Reviewed on: July 13, 2007
