Biga on the Banks

FANTASTIC!!!

The title of this review says it all. This restuarant is absolutely fantastic. The menu is created every day from the chef/owner who decides what he will cook. So it’s possible to go there and never see the same thing on the menu. The restaurant has a modernish feel to it without the stark lighting that you can find in modern restaurants.

It has large, more public area dining tables, small private alcoves and even more private tables behind drawn curtains. Most all of the tables provide some view of the Riverwalk with many being right next to the large windows directly overlooking the water. What’s even better about the seating and the place in general is that you get the view without the public’s intrusion that you can experience at many of the restaurants that are right on the Riverwalk in San Antonio.

The wait staff is plentiful and not intrusive. The times that I have eaten there they have made it a point to tell me that I have all the time in the world. I never once had the feeling that I was being pushed to eat and get out to turn a table. Additionally on a personal note, I found the staff to be extremely sensitive to our privacy, the occasion and even my clothes. I had on a black dress and at the table was a white linen napkin. Before I had even the chance of opening and putting the napkin in my lap a black linen napkin was provided so I wouldn’t have any white specks on my dress. Very thoughtful!

The food was wonderful and perfectly done. I am not a gourmet by any stretch of the imagination but my experiences here make me think I could become one. The wine list is extensive and would fit anyone’s taste. If they have it on the menu when you visit I highly recommend the rib-eye or the quail. Both will make you cry for more.

Reservations are needed especially for busier nights like Friday and Saturday. Dress is casual to dressy but, I wouldn’t go there in cut-offs and flip flops. Expect to pay for a dinner with wine for 2 about $150 or more – but it is well worth it.
