Ferry Building Marketplace

Ferry Building Marketplace

quote:

Caviar and champagne at eight in the morning, oysters and Sancerre at eight at night. Food lovers never lack temptation at the cavernous, light-filled Ferry Building Marketplace. It’s an old-fashioned, European-style food hall, housed in the former 1898 Ferry Building. Once every form of San Francisco’s public transportation converged here. After many years of decline, it’s taken on new life with this transformation to a marketplace. People once again converge to shop for food and dine in one of four restaurants, including uber popular Slanted Door. You can also pick up a shake and maybe the best burger in town at Taylor’s Refresher, a cup of lapsang souchong at Imperial Tea Court, or amaretto gelato cone at Ciao Bella. Picking up supper or a picnic lunch is popular — bread from Acme Bakery, artisan cheese at Cowgirl Creamery, peaches from Frog Hollow Farm and chocolates from Recchiuti Confections. On Tuesdays and Saturdays, the food stalls spill out of the building for the Ferry Plaza Farmer’s Market. The market brings in growers from the surrounding area to sell vegetables, fruits, eggs, meat and fish only hours away from the fields, pastures and streams.
