Memphis Rock N Soul Museum

Memphis Rock N Soul Museum

quote:

The collection at the Memphis Rock’n’Soul Museum tries to capture the whole gamut of the Memphis music legacy, so if you only have time to hit one museum, this is the best choice. For the most part it succeeds, touching on everything from southern gospel through the legacy of Ardent Studios, where Led Zeppelin, ZZ Top, and R.E.M. have laid down tracks. One of the best features here is the scattering of themed jukeboxes throughout. With the supplied audio player, you can listen to whole tracks from Robert Johnson at the delta blues section, or hear tracks from the Staple Singers and Isaac Hayes at the Stax section. Even Alex Chilton’s Box Tops and “Wooly Bully” will blast through your headphones if you want. Of course there are plenty of artifacts and stage costumes from different eras, all lovingly presented. The Beale Street location is convenient and as a presentation of history, the Memphis Rock’n’Soul Museum is a well-done primer on the city’s significant contributions to the world of music.
