Auburn is quite a prosperous and pleasant university town, 50 miles northeast of Montgomery in east-central Alabama. Two-thirds of the population of 35,000 attend the state’s largest educational institution, Auburn University, which is the city’s most significant employer. It is also a local attraction in its own right, with Samford Hall, Langdon Hall, and the chapel all dating from 1880. Football is immensely popular in Auburn, in part because the university fields one of the country’s best gridiron teams. Sports fans will enjoy the Lovelace Athletic Museum. On the city’s southwestern boundary is the delightful Chewacla State Park.
Access to Auburn is via bus or the highway system (it is just off I-85). The nearest airports are at Montgomery and Atlanta.
