Skagway is rather windy and dry relative to most of the state, with only about 26 inches of rain a year. The Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park encloses the period buildings and restored fa\347ades of Skagway, which was settled in the late nineteenth century by gold prospectors. As many as 40,000 people subsequently left from here to travel to the Yukon over the Chilkoot or White Pass Trail.
Visitors come to Skagway to experience its old-fashioned charm and to walk its picturesque mountain and glacier trails. The Skagway Overlook, a scenic lookout near the town, provides an excellent view of the settlement, its waterfront, and the nearby peaks.
Located at the northern end of the Inside Passage in southeast Alaska, Skagway is about 750 miles from Anchorage. It can be reached by car, bus, plane, train, or ferryboat.
