review Kauppatori

Coolest maket square ever!

The Kauppatori, or Market Square, is the coolest little marketplace on earth. I wrote a bit about it in my Helsinki review, but I’ll mention some of it here. First off, it sits right on the harbor overlooking Suomenlinna, Finland’s castle fortress. Beautiful sight. Second, the things they sell at the tori are terrific. In the summer you can get fresh fruits and vegetables of nearly every color. Hand crafted items like jewelry, wooden works, and specialty items abound. You can also pick up knives and clothing as souvenirs. When you get hungry you can get a lihapiirakka (meat pie) from a tori vendor. Everything there is great! It is in a wonderful location and the atmosphere is so Finland. When we were there we got nearly all of our fruits and vegetables from the tori. And they were good. If you’re ever in Helsinki, don’t pass this up!
