Sun City, AZ Summary
Sun City photo

Sun City is the quintessential retirement community. It began as a partnership between builder Del Webb, and cotton farmer J.G. Boswell, who owned the land. Their intention was to create an attractive retirement community, and to this end, deed restrictions require that at least one resident per household be 55 or older. It opened on New Year’s Day, 1960, and home sales were immediately brisk. Located 12 miles northwest of Phoenix, within its metropolitan area, Sun City boasts 350 clubs, seven recreation centers, 1,200 acres of golf courses, the nearby Lake Pleasant Regional Park, and plenty of sunshine. Sun City is serviced by Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Glendale Municipal Airport, and Phoenix-Goodyear Airport.
