Oahu

Lots to do besides relaxing on the beach

I went to Oahu for my honeymoon. That was the second time I've been there. However, I have a sister who lives there so I got to see a lot of things that tourist never get to experience. I would highly recommend renting a car and driving around the whole island after you go on a cheap $20 guided tour. Go to the guided tour first. They take you to the tourist-ie places like the Dole plantation or North Shore and other places you might not even think to go. After the tour, get a car and revisit the places you like. (If you go to the Dole plantation, get the pineapple frozen yogurt) Personally I like to stay in Waikiki since there are ABC stores on every corner, incase you need batteries or sun screen. Also there's lots of hotel with great restaurants. My sister's favorite and mine is the MaiTai Bar in the Royal Hawaiian. It's located on the beach in the back of a very expensive restaurant. As for when to go to Oahu, I would say November. In the summer months it's extremely hot and the humidity is high. However, in November the hottest it gets is 80 degrees. Also it's empty! Not that many tourist go then so the prices for hotels and airfare is low. Also the beaches are empty and it just a lot better without an over population of tourists.
