Fascinating fabricated city
"Brasilia is famous for its ‘history’ – designed and built from the ground up, and inaugurated in 1960. The city plan was set out in the shape of a bird, or a plane, and is an amazing thing to fly over at night. Everything – the location of the churches in the neighbourhoods, the height and orientation of the apartment blocks, the frequency of gas stations, the placement of the public buildings, and the man-made lakes for the situation of the ambassadors’ homes – was all carefully planned. While it’s not a city I would live in, it is definitely one I would visit again.
