"Over Memorial Weekend this year, we attended the Star Wars Celebration IV Convention. Since we'd be in Los Angeles for a couple of days, I wanted to find a hotel that was at least close to a subway station, just in case we decided to use the subway instead of driving to the convention each day. I knew that there was a subway station in Hollywood near Highland and Hollywood, so I started checking out Hollywood hotels and happened across a listing for the hollywood Orchid Suites. On their website, I found that their cheapest rate was $109 per night for that weekend and I'd seen a few good reviews for it, so I went ahead and booked.When we arrived, I was more than pleasantly surprised. True, our room was located right off the lobby only about 20 feet from the front desk, but the room was HUGE! These suites were obviously apartments in a past life. Not only was the bedroom very big, but there was a large kitchen included with full sized appliances. While, it's true that the rooms are older, they were very clean. The only complaint that I had was that the room smelled like it had once been a smoking room. It was unpleasant, but, like most smells, after a half an hour or so, we got used to it.The hotel has secure gated underground parking and a swimming pool and laundry facilities. They also have a computer with free internet access for guests, which was fantastic.The other bonus was the location. This hotel is located directly behind the Hollywood and Highland Mall. There is a passage way that you can walk through to get right into the mall without having to go around the block. The mall has plenty of eating options from fast food to fine dining. Next door to the mall is the famous Chinese Theater and across the street is the El Capitan that shows all of the new Disney film. As I mentioned originally, there is also a subway station right there. The Hollywood Orchid Suites is a great value in a great location. I highly recommend you check it out if you'll be in the Hollywood/LA area and are looking for a place to stay that is clean, well appointed and in the middle of everything."
