Basque, in Hollywood’s entertainment district, has helped bring back celebrity and nightlife to an area previously overrun by tourists in the day and seedy characters at night. Make dinner reservations at this club-of-the-moment to guarantee entrance (after 10 p.m., the restaurant turns into a nightclub, and a line forms outside by 9:30). Or, if you’ve got money to burn, you could opt for VIP treatment with bottle service. Otherwise, prepare to stand all night, unless you find an available couch in the smoking room up front. Go for the Wednesday night promotion, Girls’ Night Out, where staff from hip Melrose salon Varnish treats clubbers to mini-manicures. And, of course, anyone can drool over scads of under-30 eye candy; very few unattractive people congregate here. Accordingly, the vibe is pure meat market, with most eyes roaming for prey – perfect for singles. Decor is Gothic Mediterranean, with plush leather booths, crystal chandeliers, huge mirrors, high ceilings and a blue-lit bar (look for the girls in lingerie who gyrate behind the liquor bottles). With perks like these, it’s no surprise that Basque has become popular with young stars such as Jessica Biel. Sure, the servers are haughty and the drinks are overpriced, but what else would you expect in once-again-trendy Hollywood?
