Boutique Hotel With Lots of Class

Reviewed by moviegal226 on November 13, 2008

moviegal226's rating:

"An absolutely beautiful downtown Los Angeles hotel in an old 1920s building. First class, white glove service the whole way, from the maid service to check-in to the valet parking! The hotel has the old-timey luxury feel, with a white gloved doorman and top notch service. This hotel is just classy in every way, and I think you can see how much I love it. Rose colored marble in the bathroom, crisp white sheets, modern art prints - it's just very luxurious. Sometimes movie or t.v. crews are filming in front of the hotel or down the street so you can watch Hollywood at work. Top of the line furnishings (ivory silk bedding, granite top tables, mahogany finished furniture with matte polished silver handles, cd / clock radio, flat screen tv, art deco lamps) and super-comfy soft down pillows and bed! The windows actually open fairly wide to let in fresh air. Some of the rooms are very small, like the one we were in, but mirrors make them feel more spacious. I've stayed at Checkers before and the corner rooms have floor to ceiling window but they book up quickly. The bathrooms are spacious, but they only have 1 sink. The showers all have awesome double showerheads with various settings for a nice massage. The big negatives for this property is that since it is downtown L.A., overnight guests only have the option for valet parking if you have a car - and it costs a whopping $38.50 PER NIGHT. Internet access throughout the hotel is wireless and costs $9.95 per day. There is a small rooftop pool that affords gorgeous views of downtown, and the on-site spa will perform some of the spa treatments outside by the pool. There is a nice bar in the lobby and the on-site restaurant is top-notch. Don't miss the breakfast; my favorites are the homemade granola and freshly squeezed orange juice. 24 hour room service is offered, but the choices are very limited after 11 pm (there are just 8 things on the menu during the late night hours). There are also several quick service / takeout restaurants (Starbucks, Famima, Domino's Pizza, Carl's Jr., Quizno's, Wolfgang Puck's) within walking distance of a block or two."
