Summary of LAX
LAX
1714 N. Las Palmas Ave.
Los Angeles, CA 90028
323-464-0171
Open since August 2005, LAX, co-owned by DJ AM, has created buzz for its celebrity sightings (Paris Hilton, Mischa Barton and, of course, Nicole Richie) and its unique decor, which revolves around an airport theme. Dim lights and a swirling disco ball that hangs above the dance floor barely illuminate sleek red and black couches, airplane-like “windows” and concrete floors. Arrive early on weekends – at 9:45 p.m., you’ll get a good space in line; by 10:30 expect a significant wait; by 11, the club may be packed to capacity. Doormen aren’t as snobby as you’ve heard, but they possess a definite air of self-importance as they shuffle hot young things through the door. You can order bottle service to skip this ordeal, but it’ll cost nearly a grand – perhaps a good option for a large group of guys. Otherwise, cover is $20. On weekends, promoter Larry Vision packs ‘em in to dance to the DJ’s mix of hip-hop, alternative and rock beats. Two outdoor areas are better for conversation, and each is equipped with its own small bar. When you finally get past the ropes at LAX, you’ll enjoy a diverse group of raucous partiers and strong cocktails – if only the real LAX was this much fun.
