This famous comedy club’s adjacent bar is usually filled with comics (and aspiring comics) as well as audience members imbibing before or after the club’s nightly shows. It’s also a popular spot for improvisers who perform at The Second City studio theater next door. The Improv’s bar crowd varies from night to night depending on the scheduled performance, since shows are often centered around a theme like College Humor night or Mo’ Better Monday’s Urban Comedians show. The bar is usually pretty vacant early on, but the friendly bartenders and Rodney Dangerfield bobble head doll can keep you company before the crowds file in closer to show time. The décor, complete with floor-to-ceiling mirrors, old TVs and wood-paneled bar, probably hasn’t been updated since the days when Ellen DeGeneres and Jerry Seinfeld were performing here on new comedian night. Now their framed photographs, along with pictures of other comics who’ve made it big, adorn the walls. The Improv offers a full menu at the bar and waitress service at nearby tables.
