Before LAX, this was the major transportation hub for all of Southern California. Built in 1939 and considered the last great railroad station in the nation, it was a common sight for people coming to and from the Southland for many years. Movies, particularly those made in the 40s, often utilized the station to film Hollywood stars arriving or departing from here. Although traffic has diminished to some degree, the station is still busy with both Metrolink and Amtrak trains.
