Summary of Joan's on Third
Known primarily for its excellent catering at parties for the rich and famous (and those who represent them, produce for them, cast them, or otherwise play with them), Joan’s on Third also divvies up gorgeous gift baskets and is a great place to grab lunch. Just ask Kirsten Dunst and Jake Gyllenhaal, the on-again, off-again couple known for stopping by with their shared-custody dog and noshing on muffins and coffee. The sandwiches typically take a simple concept and amp it up a notch. BLTs are made with applewood-smoked bacon, romaine lettuce, and tomato on toasted pan di mie. A tuna melt uses aged Vermont cheddar and French baguettes, and even the Caesar salad comes with homemade croutons and Argentine Parmesan. The seemingly small venue, located (as the name suggests) on Third Street near the Beverly Center mall, packs a mean punch and, as with all too-small, too-hip places, can be agonizingly crowded at lunchtime. Refreshingly, diets cannot exist at Joan’s on Third. Try the marshmallow cream-filled chocolate cupcake or the “rustic” apple pie. If you’re feeling ambitious or want to impress some visiting houseguests, pick up some frozen take-home meals and pass them off as your own. They’ll never know.
