If there is a heaven for science-fiction geeks, Café Nova Express is where they will eat. The restaurant/cafe resembles an alien space station mock-up, complete with airplane seats, glass shelves filled with action figures, comic book reprints and a painted “window” into deep space. It’s open until the wee hours for all your late-night coffee or espresso needs, sandwiches (turkey focaccia is delicious), large salads, and pizza (try the “Cosmo” or “light-ship”). Orange ooze-shaped tables and a black-lit ceiling, plus DJs spinning Euro mixes, add to the psychedelic feel. Nova Express is a funky, casual place for a date, post-club snack or coffee break, but you may have to ask three times for the check. Nova Express is located across from Canter’s deli on Fairfax, and parking can be tough to come by; be sure to check spaces at the bank around the corner—as long as it’s closed.
