The Pacific Terrace Hotel, located at the north end of San Diego’s gorgeous and always lively Pacific boardwalk, combines a sleek and shiny look with the comforts of an old-fashioned B&B. Outside, it’s all curved metal and tropical greenery. Inside, there are cookies, coffee and iced tea set out all day, plus complimentary wine in the early evening. The Pacific Terrace Hotel is set on a bluff overlooking the boardwalk and ocean, and each room has a private terrace or balcony; many but not all have ocean views – be sure to request one. The rooms themselves are done in blue-green, beige and mauve, reflecting the sunset on the ocean right outside your French doors. The location offers perfect weather and access to Old Town, the famed San Diego Zoo with its pandas and SeaWorld, but you may be loath to leave the serenity here. Ask the concierge to arrange surf lessons for you, or pick up something sparkly to wear out on the town in downtown La Jolla’s exclusive shopping district, only 15 minutes away.
