San Diegos only anthropological museum is home to 70,000 artifacts, folk art and archaeological finds from all over the world. With mummies and ancient carved monuments, the treasures inside this museum are abundant, but the building itself is also a San Diego treasure and city symbol. The California Building with its tile-capped tower was designed in 1915 by Bertram G. Goodhue and reflects a whimsical “California Mission” style of architecture. Admission: USD6 adults; USD3 children ages 6-17; children under six are free.

"This is an interesting archaeological museum. In college, a girl in one of my history classes reviewed in front of the class, and she said, “The displays are great- they totally look like real people! But they’re not.” Well, duh! Where are you going to find Neanderthals in today, and how would you get them to stand so still for so long?? Haha! But the displays are quite lifelike, and there’s a lot to see here. The exhibits are explained very well, and the people working there are usually pretty knowledgeable if you have questions, too! Definitely great for learning about ancient times, and how we evolved!"
