Important Hotel Information:

Jet setters, hipsters, and heiresses alike will feel right at home in the fabulous, funky, and totally original Clift Hotel. Visually, the Clift Hotel is as magical as a trip to Alice’s Wonderland – only a good deal more sophisticated. Re-designed by the masterful Philippe Starck, the Clift looks daring – even subversive – despite being nearly 100 years old. The public spaces of the Clift Hotel are masterpieces. Take in the visual splendor of the lobby, the famed Redwood Room, and the intimate Living Room. Guests love Jean-Baptiste Mondino’s playfully deadpan black-and-white photos of plastic animal toys, hung from the Living Room’s walls. Guest rooms are bright but soft, filled with tactile fabrics such as silk and leather in soothing shades of white, grey and lilac. Whether you stay at the Clift or just pop in to admire its design, have a drink in the Redwood Room, where backlit liquor bottles become works of art. Asia de Cuba’s sultry glamor is the perfect backdrop for a romantic tete-a-tete. The Clift Hotel is located in the very fashionable Union Square.

Nightlife

Reviewed by Cheesewhiz on December 27, 2006

Cheesewhiz's rating:

"This hotel has a great bar and nightlife, and the bathrooms are amazing!! A clean bathroom is important, especially in the city. There is usually a short line you must wait to get into the bar, but if you are staying in the hotel you can by-pass all of that."

Great hotel

Reviewed by bdigby on June 08, 2006

bdigby's rating:

"Clift is a hip hotel with a hip scene. The Redwood room is downstairs and is a great bar scene. Good location if you want to be in the heart of downtown SF. Downsides are small rooms and it is a bit pricey."

Clift review

Reviewed by socialite on October 17, 2005

socialite's rating:

"I never rest my head anywhere but the Clift Hotel in San Francisco. I once stayed at the Phoenix and yeah, it has a hot scene, but the rooms are a tad motelish for my taste. The Clift is where anyone who is used to living an ultra stylish lifestyle would want to be. In this case – me. I always stay in one of the hotel’s private apartments, which have the most darling little lavender chairs! Asia de Cuba just happens to be located right in the Clift and is one of the hottest restaurants in San Francisco. How convenient for me!"
