The Fairmont San Francisco is a hotel that celebrates luxury and five-star treatment. From the opulent golden lobby (reminiscent of St. Petersburg’s Hermitage) to the tranquil rooftop garden, the Fairmont brings the glamour of Belle Epoque San Francisco to the twenty-first century. Guest rooms are décorated in regal shades of royal blue and gold, and you can easily upgrade to enjoy choice amenities. For instance, the Exterior Rooms each boast 14-foot tall vaulted ceilings. The Buckingham Suite includes a glass-enclosed balcony, parquet floor entry and a lovely parlor paneled with wood. Both business travelers and vacationing tourists will appreciate the Fairmont’s extremely central location in posh Nob Hill. The Fairmont is located at the only site in San Francisco where both of the cable car lines intersect. Check out the gothic beauty of Grace Cathedral or the crooked switchbacks of flower-lined Lombard Street. For a change of latitude, try the tropical mai tais in the hotel’s Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar. Your canine companion won’t be left out of the fun at the Fairmont; the hotel offers a pooch-friendly package that includes the use of a “dog translator” to improve your inter-species communication.

Check out the Tonga Room

reewins' rating:

"The Fairmont is a funny mix of new world comfort, old fashioned hotel glamour, and a bit of kitsch. The rooms have been remodeled and provide great city views from the hotel’s location on Nob Hill. The lobby, meanwhile, has that grand hotel style. But the real treat here is the Tonga Bar where during the “rainstorms” a band on a raft floats onto water in the middle of the room. (The water seems to have once been a hotel pool). It’s so corny that it’s great."

Historic elegance, views, and a good location

jeff-SFO's rating:

"Glamorously ornate, the expansive lobby of this San Francisco icon is alone worth the visit – enjoy it while sipping a glass of wine and listening to the piano player in the open bar. Rooms in the newer tower get huge views of the city. Take your time sipping a cocktail in the Tonga Room in the basement, and you can watch the rainstorm over the tiki island."
