Winding its way through hilly San Francisco is the most famous street in the city. Like a cement serpent, Lombard Street crawls through beautiful homes just a few blocks from North Beach. The extravagant flowers and beautiful landscaping are showcased along the famously dubbed “crookedest” street in the world. Visitors from all over cruise in rented vehicles or stow in the backseats of willing natives to secure a place on the list of those who have traveled the legendary stretch of road. The beauty of the neighborhood and the view of the city make this street well worth a glimpse, perhaps even more so than the novelty of the twisting path. A quick stop certainly worth taking in, Lombard Street is a section of road that embodies the unique and unpredictable nature that is San Francisco.

Fun!

"Anytime I take new people to San Francisco, I always take them for a drive down this street. Which is completely nerve wracking! There’s usually a line of cars waiting to drive down the curvy part, and the wait to drive down is on a steep hill, which is especially scary in a manual-shift car! The drive down the curvy part is actually fun. You can’t go fast (not that anyone in their right mind would want to!), because there are too many cars. It’s fun! Definitely not like any other street! I don’t know how people actually LIVE on this street, with all the traffic!"

Have the cabbie do a drive by

Reviewed by reewins on January 11, 2007

"If you are headed between the wharf and other parts of the city, have the cab driver do a run down Lombard Street. It will only cost you a couple dollars extra, you’ll get a great view, and you can say you’ve been down the crookedest street."

A must do for the whimsical...

"This street is very pretty and scenic, but don’t let it fool you. It has been named rthe crokkedest street in SF. I have actually been on it a timeor two, and it feels very much like a roller coaster ride. One minute you are going througha quick windy turn, the next you are going up and down big hills. It is definately fun, and something to say you did at least once in this life."

Lombard Street review

family's rating:

"This crooked street is really beautiful. The landscaping is so well taken care of, and the homes that line it are fantastic. It’s definitely a photo op, so bring the camera. I really wasn’t too concerned with whether or not we drove down the street, I just wanted to get a picture and look at the view, but my daughters insisted, so we cruised down. It’s fun and very unique."
