The two galleries, as well as the school, are well worth visiting. This unusual structure overlooking the Bay is designed to look like a converted monastery of some antiquity, but actually dates back to only 1926. Forty years later, the rooftop deck was added from which you can see a great deal of the city, including the Coit Tower and Twin Peaks. The Diego Rivera gallery contains a mural by Diego Rivera and a strong collection of student work. The Walter McBean gallery includes contemporary works by established and emerging artists. Admission is free.
