With local and nationally known indie bands performing five or six nights a week in the back room for a cover of $7 or less, The Hemlock draws quite the throng of hipsters and indie-rockers, especially Thursday through Saturday. On Monday nights, DJs spin for the free Punk Rock Sideshow. There’s no cover in the main room, where the mirrored walls and subdued illumination from the eclectic vintage light fixtures allow the pretty boys and girls to discreetly keep tabs on who’s checking them out. The Hemlock’s wood, walk-around bar, which takes up most of the main room, is a beauty, and the adjoining heated, glassed-in smoking room is a big bonus for the nicotine addict. The been-around-the-block bartenders know how to serve up a strong drink in a timely fashion, and generous bags of warm peanuts to go with your beer cost a mere buck.
