Summary of The Castro
The Castro
Castro and Market streets
San Francisco, CA 94114
415-391-2000
A neighborhood where rainbow flags wave with pride, the Castro is the center of San Francisco’s gay community. Tourists come to this section of the city to gawk at what locals consider a part of the culture. San Francisco’s Pride Celebration and Parade, the SF Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, and the SF Dyke March are all held here. Not to mention, the Castro is the place to be on Halloween. The streets are closed off, and you’ll see costumes more extravagant than Joseph and his Technicolor Dream Coat could have ever imagined. Wigs, stilts, and some of the most convincing drag queens you’ve ever seen line the streets this night for a mind-blowing show. The Castro also happens to be one of the most beautiful areas of the city; rents are steeper than the streets, and funky boutiques, fabulous restaurants, and great nightlife fill the neighborhood. A visit here will make you feel immersed in the culture of this beautiful and diverse city; you’ll forget about that trip to Fisherman’s Wharf in no time.
