"The mission itself is not that exciting. If you’ve been to one mission in California, you’ve basically been to them all. If you haven’t seen one, then go- they’re an interesting part of California’s history. But the shopping around the area is very interesting! There’s this fascinating natural history store with all kinds of crazy animal skeletons, taxidermied animals (some dressed in costumes… weird!), artifacts, and…. stuff. It is indescribable, but I loved it! I must have spent an hour looking at all the weirdness, and it’s not a very big store! Then there’s the Pirate store! It’s owned by the author Dave Eggers, who is a hilarious writer, so it’s fitting he has something so random. He uses the back to hold writing workshops, but the front of the store is pirate stuff. There’s a huge vat of lard for sale, because pirates use that (can’t remember what for though!). Lots of stuff that’s fun to look at, that people would never buy, plus a few magazines, books, and tshirts that people would buy! Definitely two of the weirdest stores I’ve ever been in!"
