"I wanted to try Basque food, but most of SF’s basque places are a bit pricey. An old college friend and I hit Iluna Basque, which seems to be just picking up steam in the press. It is delightful. Very gorgeous setting (we were just catching up on the last 10 years, but it would make an ideal romantic dinner). We had a tasty regional wine, as well as piquillos with bacalo (as a voracious reader of food magazines, I was in 7th heaven trying things I had only read about), serrano ham, chorizo, asparagus, and, some basque cheeses and olives. It was very filling – probably less than $30 each with wine. Lots of small plates, which I love, but they also serve small dinners. This was about a year ago, and their menu has been slightly updated, but I highly recommend the place. It’s a bit hard to get to from most major areas, at least for us, but it was worth a cheap SF cab!"
