Amoeba Music ia a mecca for music lovers. You’ll find a lot of music by independent artists, and if you’re into obscure bands, this place has you covered. The vinyl collection is excellent, and there are in-store performances here on a fairly regular basis.

Best record store around

"Amoeba Music is an absolute must if you are a music junkie. It is a huge store, with an amazing selection. Looking for that obscure local band… from half-way around the world? Odds are if their albums are in distribution they have it. If Amoeba doesn’t have what you are looking for, then start scouring the Internet because their selection is the best of any physical music store I have ever been in. Great vibe, tons of new and used albums, amazing selection of independent labels, and located on Haight St. which has a bunch of cool shops worth checking out. I live an hour and 15 minutes away, but I still will make the trip if I can’t find the CD I want anywhere local. I can’t ask for any more in a record store."

Amoeba Music review

"Amoeba Music is a HUGE music store located at the end of Haight Street. It’s basically an open-area. warehouse of music (I was told it used to be a bowling alley). It has rows and rows (and rows) of selections. It’s easy to get completely lost in here. And if you’re a vinyl digger like me, you’ll totally lose yourself thumbing through records. Browse the bargain section up front, you’ll find some treasures for a dollar or two. They have a great info desk and the staff is surprisingly helpful. Great selections of DVDs. And sometimes cool indie bands come through and perform in the store. What a nice bonus. You should really check out this mammoth record store."
