Summary of Lola's
At Lola’s on Fairfax, just off trendy Melrose Avenue, the pictures on the walls send a not-so-subliminal message (not that you’ll need persuading): Order a martini. You’ll have more than 50 to choose from, some irresistible and some just plain odd. For the best presentation, order an Ocean’s Eleven, with fresh edible flowers floating on top. If you crave a kick to the palate, the Jalapeno may be for you. Whatever your taste or mood, there’s a martini to suit you, and it’ll be served up in a huge glass for a relatively reasonable price ($9.50). Sit at the small bar in front if you can find a seat there; cheetah-print metal chairs are lined up against a neutral backdrop. Bartenders are chatty and young, but know how to make great drinks. You can also grab dinner in the back rooms; chef Jake Filipovich serves tasty American fare with little fuss. Come early for the happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m., or stay late (they serve until 2 a.m.). You’ll definitely need to return; even after many nights at Lola’s you’ll make only a small dent in this drink list.
