Miyagi’s on Sunset Boulevard at Roxbury Road attracts sports fans, UCLA college students with brand new IDs, birthday party crowds and sushi lovers who seek more dancing and less Zen with their Japanese fare. Though it may not appear large from the street, Miyagi’s is an enormous (17,500 square feet) restaurant with separate vibes for each of its three floors. You have your choice of outside patio, waterfalls, pool tables, big screen TVs and hot, sweaty, meat-market dance floors, depending on your mood and the company you’re keeping. Here’s a tip: Decide beforehand what your spending limit is. If you don’t, the waiters and waitresses will relentlessly refill your sake and set down unlimited platters of sushi and appetizers as you become drunker and drunker. When 1 a.m. rolls around, you’ll be stuck with a bill in the hundreds for food and alcohol you don’t even remember agreeing to. Don’t fall prey to the “specialty” rolls unless you like mayonnaise on your sushi. If you plan to dance the night away, just order some relatively cheap chicken tempura and load up on drinks for a good time. If you prefer to have your taste buds tantalized by exquisitely served and prepared sushi, go someplace else. Wax on, wax off, Daniel-san.
