Montreal, Canada Summary

Montreal is a modern, vibrant city with a rich cultural and architectural history. Roughly 70 percent of the population speaks French, making Montreal the largest French-speaking city outside of Paris. Downtown is home to the RÉSO, Montreal’s underground city, which comprises 20 miles of corridors and shopping promenades that link to hotels, museums, shops, theaters, residential and office complexes, and metro, train and bus stations. Old Montreal is the oldest part of the city and is where you’ll find glorious buildings that date back to the 1600s. Montreal City Hall, Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours and Bonsecours Market are found here, as are Notre-Dame de Montreal Basilica and the New York Life Building, Canada’s oldest skyscraper. Montreal has a thriving arts scene and hosts several cultural events and festivals.
