Quebec City, nestled into cliffs that overlook the St. Lawrence River, is the capital of the province of Quebec. It is best loved by tourists for its Old Town area, where its original city walls, dating to the 1600s, can be explored. Most of the sites you’ll want to see are found in the Old Town, including the Citadel, where you can see a changing of the guard in the morning, the Chateau Frontenac, the Observatoire de la Capitale, the Place-Royale and the Musee de la Civilisation. The Old Town area is also home to great boutiques and restaurants. Catch an evening cruise on the St. Lawrence River for gorgeous sunset views of the city, and if you’re a cold-weather fan, come in the winter and venture away from Old Town to the shores of Lake St. Joseph to stay at the Ice Hotel, one of only two in the world (the other on is in northern Sweden).
