A favorite among Colorado ski towns because of its unique and historic Main Street, Breckenridge is great for everyone from families to college kids, ski bums to first-timers. A fantastic ski school and varied terrain make it a must if you’ve got multi-level skiers in your group. But don’t spend all your time on the mountain. For that matter, don’t even feel like you have to go during ski season. What gives Breckenridge a step up on other Rocky Mountain villages is its atmosphere. The quaint 146-year-old Victorian town is full of shops and boutiques, restaurants and bars, art galleries and spas that will keep you strolling down Main Street for hours. The colorful late-1800s architecture and laid-back, small-town vibe is friendly and inviting. Do not pass by Crepes a la Carte on Main Street—a dessert hotspot, not to mention a prime location for chatting it up with locals and other visitors. Try the chocolate chip and strawberry crepe (very yummy), sit down at one of the sidewalk tables and watch all the little kids skipping down the street, ski bunnies window shopping, and good-looking snowboarders passing by.
