Largely a college and agricultural town of 104,000 people, Fort Collins is located 62 miles north of Denver along I-25. Home to Colorado State University, Fort Collins is usually regarded by motorists as a suitable place to pull over for gas before embarking on the next highway stretch across to the Wyoming state line.
Once an outpost along the Overland Trail, Fort Collins has preserved its Victorian heritage in the district of the Old Town. Visitors can stroll along Mountain Avenue and Linden Street to view the handsome structures dating back to the 1880s. The most prominent landmark is the City Drug Store. The Fort Collins Museum, on Matthews Street, has a modest collection of pioneer artifacts and the first log cabin erected at the fort.
Fort Collins hosts the two-day Colorado Brewers Festival in late June, and Oktoberfest in mid- September. At any time of the year, visitors can mingle with the college kids at one of several downtown breweries or tour the Anheuser-Busch Brewery on Busch Drive.
There is shuttle service from Denver International Airport.
