Location. The Sonnenalp Resort of Vail (Colo.), provides elegant, Bavarian style accommodations in the center of Vail Village. Vista Bahn Chairlift is within one block and the Dobson Ice Arena is one half mile away. Ski shuttle service is provided and airport transportation is available for a fee.
Hotel Features. Complimentary buffet style breakfasts are offered each morning and authentic alpine cuisine is presented at Swiss Chalet, including fondues, Pfeffer Steak and Wiener Schnitzel. Ludwig’s hosts an award winning wine cellar and contemporary American fare, while Bully Ranch offers a casual Southwestern and American menu. Evenings at the King’s Club Lounge boast live entertainment and cocktails served before a roaring fireplace. A business center, conference rooms and complimentary wireless Internet access are provided. Private instruction from PGA Professionals is available at the property’s private 18 hole golf course, open from late March through early November. Heated indoor and outdoor pools with a waterfall and riverfront sun deck are available, and pampering spa services include the Bavarian Body Polish, High Altitude Wrap and the Heated Stone Massage. Adjacent to the spa, a fitness center hosts a range of weight training and cardiovascular machines. Private yoga instructors and personal trainers are available. An old world style library provides hundreds of books and board games, and the resort’s KidVentures program offers supervised activities including Laser Tag, tubing, bowling and movie nights.
Guestrooms. Radiating contemporary alpine charm, the 128 guestrooms and suites, most with fireplaces, contain exposed wood beam ceilings, two poster beds and rich fabrics in contrasting prints. Bedding includes down comforters and Egyptian cotton linens, while bathrooms offer heated floors and double wide soaking bathtubs. Amenities include flat screen television, CD & DVD players and complimentary wireless Internet access.
Expert Tip. The Sonnenalp name, which translates to “Sun on the Mountains,” was inspired by the original ranch house in Ofterschwang, Bavaria.
