Greece

Getting lost in Athens

Greece is like no where else I have ever been…and I loved every minute of it. You have to go to Athens. (And you will get lost so do not sweat about it. Some of my favorite memories happened when we were trying to find a particular place in that amazing city). Do not spend your entire trip there, but do not skip it either. I realize it is a big city-full of smog and tourists. But the sights there cannot be missed and the mix between the old and the new is fascinating. I also recommend checking out the National Archaeological museum in Athens. You will receive a history lesson that you cannot get in a classroom.

As far as the islands go, it is going to be hard to see them all…I certainly did not. I did make it to Mykonos (which is the quintessential looking Greek Island), Rhodes (which is fascinating to say the least) and Patmos (which is where I recommend getting outdoors and taking a good hike). I loved all three islands for different reasons and I am sure the other islands are the same way.

Just make sure you get out and see the real culture and scenery. Meet the locals and learn a few key words; ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ will take you far in this captivating country. Also, if you are a young woman (particularly if you are a blonde) be prepared; Greek men are not shy!
