Fisherman's Wharf
Had a blast in Fisherman's Wharf!
I came up to San Francisco to visit some friends last week and had an awesome time. I'd been there in the past but didn't get a chance to fully explore the city. Though North Beach was probably my favorite neighborhood, I have to say I really enjoyed hanging out down in Fisherman's Wharf. I thought it would be like what Tim's Square is to New York but it wasn't at all. For one thing, it's gorgeous, with Alcatraz right there across the bay. But what really surprised me was how many cool museums there are. The wax museum was much more interesting than I expected...amazing how realistic those likenesses are! Also, this really interesting place called the Musee Mecanique at pier 45 is a must see. It's like an old-time penny arcade with antique games and thing. Very cool! Also; the U.S.S Pampanito, a World War II submarine museum and memorial is a must see for anyone interested in US history or old ships. We took a cable car right over the hill to Union Square where we saw Jersey Boys, which I absolutely loved. Looking forward to exploring SOMA and the Mission District on my next trip!Reviewed on: September 14, 2007

Couldn't agree more! I hadn't been to Fisherman's Wharf in a while but my wife was attending a seminar at a nearby hotel last month so I hung around the Wharf, killing some time. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the new sites, the talent, the food, and the great atmosphere. The weather was spectacular and I found myself just lazing around and soaking up the sun (with spf 30 of course!). Great people watching down there! It's a bit more touristy than some of the other great neighborhoods in The City but it didn’t feel too congested. I wound up taking a trip over to Alcatraz and did one of those tape-recorder tours. Again, a touristy thing to do but hey tourists just seek out the most interesting and well-known attractions in a city, right? Oh, and if you go, don’t forget to check out the barking Sea-lions lounging about off Pier 39. Entertaining and free.
