Wow!

"We were fortunate to go on a tour with a friend who works in the White House Office Building. We had to send our name, birthday, social security number, etc. in early. There is a set plan that you follow and you can only go on certain days. The rooms that you see on TV seem much smaller in person. There are Secret Service people all over and they can explain the specifics in each room. I would definitely recommend this as a place to visit."

"Another fun commentary from CA. The Senator’s assistant and I missed our outside tour do to my jetlag, however we did get to explore the outside frounds including the elegant President’s park Rose Garden, from what we could see. The area is pretty well gated off, but you can see through the bars. We had someone put our camera through the bars, and take the picture of the White House, like I was just there. Also, Jeff and I got our pictures taken right outside in front of it, and since we were hiding the gate, it looked like we were part of the scenery. People said, Laurie, why didn’t you just walk on in? I replied because we were hiding the gate. There is a security gate there silly. My friend and I then laughed till there were tears in both our eyes. I remember the rose garden vividly, and I loved seeing the red roses there. They were very pretty. if you go to the White House, definately explore the front grounds. There’s a story there with your name on it wiating to be told."

Everybody should see it once

"You’ll only get to see a few rooms, and when I went, they made us stay on plastic runners in the hallway, and look into the rooms from there. Those rooms are tinier, dingier, and shabbier than you expect them to be. But the experience of standing there is also more moving than it has any right to be. Take a pack of tissues-odds are good you’ll tear up at some point. Despite your feelings toward whoever is occupying the place when you make your trip, it’s still the temple of democracy… and feels like it."
