Summary of National Gallery of Art
National Gallery of Art
Constitution Avenue NW

Comprising two buildings — one a traditional Greek-inspired building and the other a modern building filled with light and dramatic, geometric spaces — the National Gallery of Art features one of the finest art collections in the world. A visit to the National Gallery of Art offers a chance to peruse the history of painting, sculpture and decorative arts, with examples ranging from the Middle Ages to the present. Work your way through historical to present day exhibits, and then head downstairs to one of the museum’s variety of cafes for a pit stop before continuing to the East Building which houses the modern collection. Expect to spend a few hours in both buildings, and make sure to wander through the sculpture garden, which is adjacent to the West Building and offers a serene location for enjoying the National Mall, including seasonal ice skating.
