Summary of DC9
Unlike at the many refined velvet rope bars cropping up along U Street, anything goes at funky two-level club DC9, where two unique spaces guarantee a lively night. Upstairs on the stage, live bands play nearly every night, ending early on the weekends for indie rock DJ nights. Be warned, DC9ers like to dance, and dance they do: on the stage, on the speakers, on the bar, it’s all good here. The downstairs space doesn’t aspire to be anything more than a genuine dive bar, with bottled beer, friendly bartenders and a blaring jukebox. Of course, it also has dive bar amenities, so the bathrooms should be avoided if possible. Insiders note: DC9 is where many bands playing at the popular 9:30 Club come to party after the show.
